Editing
Editing is charged on a per word basis. The rate is determined by whether the manuscript needs a light, medium, heavy, or developmental edit.
Light edit = up to 9 errors per 100 words
Medium edit = between 9 and 15 errors per 100 words
Heavy edit = between 16 and 19 errors per 100 words
Developmental edit = 20+ errors per 100 words
Proofreading
Proofreading is charged at the rate of a light edit.
References
Reference checking is charged on an hourly basis
Compiling reference list is charged per reference
Formatting
Formatting is charged on an hourly basis.
Indexing
Indexing is charge per page (at 414 words per page).

To give you a precise quote, I might ask to see an excerpt of your text so I can evaluate what work needs to be done.
A quote is valid for 3 months. Acceptance of the quote by email constitutes a binding agreement for delivery and payment of the services stipulated in the quote.

A 50% deposit is required at the outset.

I will send you an invoice once you have accepted the quote. The invoice will mark that a 50% deposit must be paid at the outset.
I will send out the final invoice after I have completed work. I hold the right to demand the rest of the payment before releasing the edited manuscript.

If the original project expands, extra hours or words can be invoiced. This is even if the project has already been invoiced or paid in full upfront.

I send you the edited work once I have received full payment.

If you would like to get a sense of what my editing looks and feels like, I am able to provide a short sample edit of your document.
I charge a nominal fee for this edited sample of about 1,000 words.
If you then decide to hire me for the whole work, I will deduct this cost from your final invoice.

Based on the date by when you want to send me your manuscript, I will advise you of the time I will require to edit your work. I will return the edited work to you within the promised deadline on condition that you submit the work by the agreed-upon date.
If you send me the work later than promised, I might need longer to finish it as I will have to give precedence to the deadlines of the other work I have accepted.

If you are late with sending me your work, I cannot keep to my original deadline.
I might also take longer to edit your work as I will need to juggle it around the deadlines of my other work.

I work in Microsoft Word.
I use of track changes and comment boxes.
I send updates as I go along.
