I check that the layout of the manuscript is internally consistent.

This includes:

• checking that each page has the same size margins

• checking that there is a clear flow of text around figures and tables

• checking that there are no single lines at the bottom or top of the page

• checking that there are no odd wide spaces within the flow of the text

• checking that no last lines of paragraphs are missing

I check that the formatting of the manuscript is internally consistent.

This includes:

• checking that all headings are clearly marked and have the same font and size

• checking that each image has a caption and all captions have the same structure

• checking that all normal paragraphs are formatted in the same way

• checking that all pages have the required headers and footers and that the their content is correctly adjusted for each page

• checking for congruency between the TOC and the content

• checking for congruency between the list of figures and the figures in the text (same for the list of tables)

I read the whole manuscript to ensure that there are no mistakes.

This includes:

• checking for grammar mistakes, spelling mistakes and punctuation mistakes

• checking that there is no duplication of words

• checking that there is no text missing
